The IICRC approved Commercial Drying Specialist (CDS) certification class is an advanced certification class designed for experienced restoration professionals.  This class is centered on developing proficiency in the unique challenges of commercial drying projects, which are often significantly larger and more complex than residential jobs.

These structures can range from:

  • Commercial

  • Industrial

  • Institutional

  • Systems

  • Furniture Fixtures and Equipment (F.F.E.)

The Commercial Drying Specialist (CDS) will be able to demonstrate expertise in damage inspection and evaluation, workflow management, process administration, and technical methods of effective and timely drying of commercial and complex residential structures. With in-depth, hand-on time students will be exposed to the situations encountered on a large loss commercial or complex residential project.

If you want to dry commercial buildings, this is the class for you!  This hands-on, 4-day, 28-hour class (excluding exam time, lunch, and breaks) class will have both classroom and field activities.  There will be large trailer-mounted desiccant dehumidifiers and generators and various other equipment onsite so you will have hands-on training on basic operation and set-up on a large commercial project.  By mastering these skills, students can help to ensure minimal business interruption and mitigate potential financial impacts for their clients.

Emphasis is placed on:

  • Anatomy and analysis of commercial structures

  • Inspection techniques and hazard assessments

  • Large scale psychrometry

  • Commercial mechanical systems

  • Managing large loss commercial projects

This certification is for the experienced technician, project manager, estimator, or owner/manager who wants to expand their understanding of commercial construction, commercial drying practices and their challenges, and opportunities.
