Odor Control Technician (OCT)

With the Odor Control Technician (OCT) Certification class, students will learn how to detect and address odors caused from biological sources such as:  Decomposition, trauma scene clean-up, dead animal proteins, pet urine contamination, microbiological mold odors, tobacco smoke, skunk odor, drug labs, power outage & freezers, combustion sources such as fire and smoke damage, and chemical sources such as fuel oil spills or volatile organic chemicals 

Emphasis is placed on:

  • Odor sources, detection process, theory of odor control 

  • Chemical options and applications

  • Sanitize, disinfect, enzyme, & sealants

  • Vapor diffusion technology

  • Antimicrobials, ‘pairing agents’, & deodorizers and how to use them

The Odor Control Technician Class is a 1-day class, held via a Zoom link.  An email with all links and information, to include the class manual and handouts, will be provided prior to class, along with instructions to register for the exam at www.iicrc.org.
